We don’t want a leader, we want a Superhero….

Here comes the superman, ripping down the sky with his supersonic speed. stopping the meteorite with his one hand while punching an alien with another and finally destroying another dozen meteorites with his laser vision. In this very fraction of second he saves the little girl and grandma from being hit by the crazy bus and finally ends his day by saving a blue eyed cute kitten who was helplessly stuck on a tree. what a fella.

Enough is enough. Now I don’t believe in the current governing system, I don’t believe in this hierarchy of politicians, ministers and cabinets. I want change as I believe that a system of politicians cannot bring the desired change. I know that the change may be ugly and scary initially but eventually will do the “greater good”. I WANT A SUPERHERO.

This above paragraph explains to an extent, the reason why people have voted for current government and might vote for the same in the future as well. We can feel that in our day to day discussions with the people backing up the current party, as they have got a superhero. Yes, a superhero, who is so authoritative that he doesn’t need anyone to do good. He alone has the authority to bring the change. A robin hood who will take from the rich and give to the poor. A messiah who will save people from any or every hardship. This liberator has every answer from agriculture to healthcare, global warming to quantum physics. An all knowing, hearing, watching, leader.

My agenda is not to disparage somebody’s potential, the point is, is it right to believe in such an ideology, a superhero ideology? The question we need to ask ourselves is that who is a better leader? A leader who claims to be a superhero and fools’ people to accept him/her as a god who knows all, sees all and helps all. Or a leader who listens to your questions and accepts that he doesn’t know the answer, but he works hard to find the answer and the solution for it. A righteous and rational leader believes in his team which is competent in their respective fields and works hard with them to reach a final resolution. A sane person knows that only the expert can bring effective solutions to definite problem.

Right now, our country is facing this issue where people are duped into thinking that they don’t need a system to solve any problem. They just need a Superhero leader, one answer to every question. This is against the logic when we are talking about a nation. A nation so big which has a new language, new culture, different foods and even different looking people every 500 kms. We need a system, a collective effort by different, able people and leaders to bring a solution which is in line with the needs of everyone. Vigilantism and authoritarianism are not that different from each other if we take a deeper look. Both isms represent the death of democracy and hence the need to take law in their own hands to deliver justice to people. We are caught in these comic book ideologies and we long for a superhero. I remember Sunny Deols “Deva ki Adalat” whenever I hear about mob lynching, where the superhero is the jury, judge and the executioner himself. They don’t need the law to punish the culprit, as they are themselves the law.
